Making a Statement with Wall Treatments

Statement walls in any home can be accomplished in so many ways these days. While we love a blank white wall when we are prepping a home for sale, we also know that people easily fall in love with homes because of the finishes. Color, pattern, texture, and material choices can all make a huge impact when designing a room. The options are endless.

Here are a few of our favorite wall finishes to use to infuse some character into any room:

Paint

While this is the obvious, first place to start when thinking about adding some personality into a room, there are a lot of unexpected ways to use paint. What about painting the wall and trim the same color? What about using paint to create an ombre look on a wall? We have been seeing a lot of great designs on accent walls that were created with paint.

Tile

Tile is not just for bathrooms and kitchens anymore. Tile can be inexpensive, makes for a great DIY project, and comes in so many colors, shapes, and textures. You could literally take the same white tile, use different grout colors and install it in a different pattern and create endless designs. There are some amazing stone, marble, and slate tiles out there that can make a visual and textural impact.

Wallpaper

Talk about the comeback kid! Wallpaper was out in the design world for many years but that is certainly not the case these days. So many great sources for wallpaper and with self-adhesive options, it has also become super easy to install. Wallpaper goes a long way in making a statement. It comes in a lot of colors, patterns, and themes. It works great in foyers, simple hallways, home offices, cozy corners, and separate dining areas, living spaces, bedrooms, or even a laundry room.

Shiplap

Shiplap is more than a stack of wooden boards that can be positioned horizontally. It looks great vertically or even diagonally. It’s a tasteful way to add texture and interest to just about any room. Bringing wood into a space automatically softens a room. The cool thing about shiplap is that it can be stained or painted to add an extra element!

Concrete

While solid concrete walls as a finish normally need to be decided on when a home is under construction, there are thin set options as well as concrete panels that can make a huge statement in any home. Concrete is a long-time favorite finish in modern architecture that we never cease to love!

Have fun — design has grown so much over recent years with material choices and how they are used. The greatest part about trying something unexpected is that if you don’t like it after a while, you can easily change it!
